Themes for Netdays 2004

There are four main themes of Netd@ys Oz 2003.

arrow My Place

The My Place theme gives you the opportunity to reflect on your place in Australia or part of the world - within your community, your school, your home, your town or city ...

arrow Populations on the Move

Populations on the Move will give opportunities to investigate Australian identity. Students will:

  • explain the significance of particular people, groups, places, actions and events in the past in developing an Australian identity and heritage.

  • describe different cultural influences and their contribution to Australian identities

  • explain how cultures change through interactions with other cultures and the environment

  • describes communities and their global interconnection, recognising global responsibilities, cultural influences and their contribution to Australian identities.

arrow Gifts we Bring

Australia is a wonderful place with many people from all over the world who consider it home. The activities and discussion under this theme will aim to encourage us all to celebrate the wealth of 'gifts' that we as a nation have from all people. It makes no difference whether you are 3rd or 4th generation Australians or new arrivals or Indigenous Australians or often seen as disadvantaged due to some disability, everyone has gifts to offer this nation.

arrow Making Connections - celebrating diversity

Making Connections provide students with an opportunity to:

  • (a) tell others about themselves (interests, lifestyle and families) and their community,

  • (b) discover information about the people and communities in other areas of Australia (cultural, lifestyle and geographic diversity).

Aims include students being encouraged to:

  • pay attention to and consider the contributions and viewpoints of others when sharing ideas and opinions;

  • use constructive strategies to develop ways in which conflicts might be resolved;

  • develop experience of and understanding of the importance of fulfilling group responsibilities, and actively support other group members; and

  • use appropriate language that is sensitive to audience and culture.
